ABSTRACT
Radius-head fractures are common fractures. Nondisplaced stable fractures are treated conservatively. Surgical treatment is necessary for fractures that limit forearm rotation. On physical examination, tenderness at the head of the radius and forearm rotation may be limited. Greenspam X-ray can help to detect occult fractures. Computed tomography should be used to detect fracture fragments. Studies have shown that surgically treated Mason Type 2 fractures develop less osteoarthritis than conservatively treated ones. For reconstructable fractures, open-reduction internal fixation is the first line treatment. Osteoporotic fractures and multi-part fractures without large enough parts for osteosynthesis can undergo radius head excision. During surgery, to protect the posterior interosseous nerve, keep the forearm in pronation.
