ABSTRACT
Telemedicine practices has the potential to transform medical education at all levels. With the impressive growth in this domanin, it has become necessary that physicians are trained to use telemedicine technology effectively. In this regard, undergraduate medical education represents an opportunity for building these capacities in future physicians. While integration of telemedicine and medical education is emergent, there have been several applications demonstrating a wide range of effects in terms of promoting the learner’s knowledge, attitudes, skills and behaviors, as well as advancing patient care. However, training about using telemedicine in healthcare delivery remains noticeably absent from the medical school curriculum. The diverse approaches being taken by medical schools for developing telemedicine competencies in medical students is a promising sign but more future efforts are needed to make such training meaningful and comprehensive.
