ABSTRACT
Tobacco is the most important risk factor for the development of many chronic diseases such as COPD, cancer, stroke, and cardiovascular diseases. While it brings damage to the health of individuals, it also has negative effects on their families, environment, and society. It is reported that the behavioral support provided by nurses to motivate and maintain smoking cessation has positive effects on patients’ successful cessation attempts. Nurses, who are among the most crowded groups of healthcare professionals, have roles such as educators, consultants, researchers, leaders, and role models in the fields of preventing from starting smoking, ensuring smoking cessation, and preventing exposure to tobacco smoke.
