ABSTRACT
Türkiye, a country located within a seismic zone, is susceptible to earthquakes, a phenomenon that has been observed to occur in the past and present. It is a well-established fact that thoracic surgery plays an active role in contexts of trauma, war, and disasters. When examining thoracic injuries, early losses include pneumothorax and hemothorax, while late losses encompass sepsis and multiple organ failure. These cases, which constitute the purpose of treatment of trauma, correspond to the remaining 50% of all cases. It is imperative to expeditiously transport these cases from the affected area to well-equipped hospitals. Physical examination is a crucial diagnostic instrument for physicians in constrained circumstances, such as during an earthquake disaster. A distinguishing feature of chest injuries, in contrast to other traumas, is their capacity for healing with conservative treatments, obviating the necessity for additional surgical interventions, such as tube thoracostomy, which is predicated on the buffering effect of the lung after it is expanded. Given the prevalence of blunt traumas, particularly in seismic events, it is crucial to evaluate and treat these injuries in a multidisciplinary setting, where effective communication among specialists is paramount.
