ABSTRACT
In recent years, many people resort to Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) methods due to reasons such as the change in the disease phenomenon with globalization, the idea that naturalness is free from side effects, the inadequacy of conventional medicine in treating some diseases, and the increase in the side effects of drugs. The use of these treatment methods in respiratory system diseases is common. Studies indicate that patients resort to CAM methods in addition to medical treatment due to major side effects, increased dosage requirements and high costs of drugs used in the treatment of respiratory system diseases. It is reported that the methods most frequently used by patients in symptom management in respiratory system diseases are herbal treatments, aromatherapy, apitherapy, acupuncture, reflexology, homeopathy, yoga, meditation and exercise. It is important for healthcare professionals to follow evidence-based research results regarding the effective and safe use of these methods.
