ABSTRACT
Elbow injuries are common in pediatric patients. The elbow region is also the most common region of pediatric fractures requiring surgical treatment. Complications after fractures of this region are also relatively common. Due to the limited contribution of the distal humeral physis to the longitudinal growth and the fact that the elbow joint motion axis is in the sagittal plane, remodeling is expected to be very limited in the fractures of this region. The median, radial and ulnar nerves in close relationship are vulnerable to injury during both fracture occurrence and treatment of fractures. Malunion, loss of nerve function, range of movement limitations, and pin tract infections are relatively common in patients treated surgically after fractures of this region.
