ABSTRACT

Treatment of sagittal malocclusions with clear aligners requires patient-specific approaches according to the severity of the malocclusion and the need for anchorage. In patients with Class II malocclusion with ongoing growth and development, Invisalign’s Mandibular Advancement treatment protocol can be used to guide the growth of the mandible. In the treatment of dental Class II malocclusion; sequential distalisation of maxillary molars, interproximal reduction application, Class II elastics and temporary anchorage devices can be used. Temporary anchorage devices can be placed in the infra zygomatic crest region, tuber region or inter radicularly between the teeth. Rapid maxillary expansion and face mask protocol is used in patients with Class III malocclusion who continue to grow and develop. In the treatment of dental Class III malocclusion; sequential distalisation of mandibular molars, interproximal reduction application, Class III elastics and temporary anchorage devices can be used. Temporary anchorage devices can be placed in the buccal shelf region, retromolar region or inter radicularly between the teeth. Distalisation movement and inclination control of mandibular incisors can be achieved successfully with clear aligners. However, the success of treatment depends on a detailed diagnosis of the malocclusion, an appropriate treatment plan, and careful evaluation of torque control and anchorage needs.
