ABSTRACT

Tube thoracostomy, commonly known as chest tube placement, is a vital procedure in the management of pleural diseases such as pneumothorax, hemothorax, and pleural effusion. It serves as both a diagnostic and therapeutic intervention in a variety of clinical scenarios. From its historical origins in ancient medicine to its modern applications with advanced technology, tube thoracostomy has evolved significantly. This review provides an in-depth review of its indications, complications, procedural technique, and removal criteria, supported by literature-based evidence for accuracy and comprehensiveness.
