ÖZET

Bu kitap bölümü, yaşlı yetişkinlerde alkol ve madde kullanım bozukluklarının (AMKB) giderek artan önemini vurgulamaktadır. Yaşlanmayla birlikte ortaya çıkan biyopsikososyal değişiklikler, alkol ve madde kullanımına yatkınlığı artırmakta, ek olarak komorbid hastalıklar ve çoklu ilaç kullanımı risk faktörlerini güçlendirmektedir. Ancak, yaşlı popülasyonda AMKB tanısını koymak, genç ve orta yaş gruplarına göre daha zordur; tanı sıklıkla atlanmakta ya da geç konmaktadır. Bu nedenle, erken tanı ve müdahale büyük önem taşımaktadır. Tedavide bireysel yaklaşımlar, farmakoterapi, psikoterapiler ve rehabilitasyon hizmetleri birlikte ele alınmalıdır. Sağlık politikalarının, yaşlı yetişkinlerde alkol ve madde kullanım bozukluklarını önlemeye yönelik stratejiler geliştirmesi, risk gruplarını taraması ve toplumsal farkındalık kampanyaları yürütmesi önerilmektedir.
