It is a great privilege and a pleasure to write the foreword to the book ”Antibiotic Selection in Childhood Infections”, which brings together the collective wisdom and expertise of leading Turkish academicians in the field of pediatric infectious diseases.

In the modern era of pediatric medicine, where the effectiveness of antibiotics is increasingly threatened by antimicrobial resistance, the judicious selection and administration of these agents in childhood infections are of paramount importance. This book attemps to navigate the complex landscape of antibiotic therapy in pediatric patients, providing clinicians, researchers, and students with a comprehensive resource for understanding the principles and practices that govern antibiotic use in this vulnerable population.

Each chapter addresses the nuances of antibiotic selection for specific microbiologic or clinical categories, such as respiratory tract infections, fungal infections, grampositive infections, among others. Supported by evidence-based guidelines and the expert insights of authors, this book equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools necessary to make informed decisions regarding antibiotic therapy in children, from basic to complex levels.

In compiling this volume, my goal has been to foster a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between antibiotics and childhood infections while promoting a culture of responsible antibiotic stewardship. I am indebted to the esteemed contributors, without whose expertise and dedication, this book would not be such a rich repository of current knowledge. It is my sincere hope that ”Antibiotic Selection in Childhood Infections” will serve as a trusted resource in the field of pediatric infectious diseases, especially for hospitalists and primary care physicians alike.
